Abstract :
The impact of various multipath channel profiles on the performance of a 1.23-MHz direct sequence spread spectrum (DS/SS) CDMA system is evaluated using simulation models for channel propagation, diversity antenna combining, and RAKE receiver acquisition. The channel profile delay spreads represent different coverage densities (rural, suburban, urban) and network architectures (macro-, micro-, picocell). Results illustrate that cells having greater non-resolvable multipath and less resolvable multipath suffer performance loss. Performance, however, is improved by using diversity antennas, provided there is sufficient spatial signal decorrelation
