Abstract
A system to acquire the 3D model of an object in a fast and easy way is presented. Models are produced by manipulating the object in front of the system. Both shape and texture are captured, integrated, and visualised online. This allows the user to check the quality of the result during the scanning. The system exploits a new structured light approach which adapts scanning mode and projection patterns to the scene. Depending on whether the object is moving or not, a single pattern or a time series is used. While moving the single pattern mode lets the system track the object motions and gives the user the necessary information for view planning. When the object is kept still, a more accurate multi-frame method yields high quality range maps. These are combined to form the actual object model.
