Abstract
This research paper presents a statistical comparison of the gold produced by a cyanide and a sulfite plating bath under different fretting conditions. It also examines the effect of lubrication on sulfite flashed gold. Additional experimentation characterizes the fret amplitude and current interaction and discusses their optimal conditions. The research study found no statistical differences between the two gold plating systems. Lubricants provide some protection from fretting wear, but also increase the amount of movement for a given force. Finally, fret amplitude and current flow through a contact should be kept at a minimum.
