Abstract
In this paper, we have proposed and demonstrated a novel and simple monitoring technique that does not require clock recovery and synchronization allowing bit rate transparency. By combining the monitoring technique with protection and restoration functions, optical links with ability to quickly respond to soft failures is realized.
