Abstract :
A variable-structure control of a flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) is used by devices including dynamic braking-resistors and dynamic series-capacitors. The recognized electromagnetic transient program (EMTP) indicates that the proposed control is highly successful for large-signal transient stability and for the improvement of electric power transmission. FACTS devices with appropriate control typically will stabilize the power system and provide damping so that a large economic benefit will be created by transferring considerably more power through the main intertie
