Abstract
A general development plan for, and the architecture of, highly intelligent network operations systems using knowledge-based technology (THINKING), for the NTT Information Network Systems are presented. THINKING systems are types of operational functional elements. They are being incorporated into network operations systems that are constructed based on conventional information-processing technology. THINKING systems are designed on the basis of the total network operation maintenance and administration system (TOMAS) philosophy. As application examples, intelligent fault diagnosis and testing of I-interface digital subscriber lines and switching systems (THINKING-DSL and THINKING-ESS) are described.<>
