Abstract :
This paper focuses on the practical performance of two converter topologies, the 2-level series-stacked converter and the 3-level neutral point clamped converter. The variation between their switching techniques, the 2-level normal, 2-level interleaved and 3-level space vector modulation respectively, is analysed. Both topologies are simulated and their overall performance, the effect of stray inductances, the impact on the filter inductors and the DC capacitor rating and performance are compared. The results aim to aid decision making for the topology application.
