TV-program Selection with Performer Representative Faces for Personal Video Recorders

We propose a new method for TV-program selection on personal video recorders. In this method, performer representative faces are aligned for each program on a TV- program listing to show performers´ appearance with their facial expressions, hair-style and makeup. Video clips are linked to the representative faces to allow users to confirm their act. Users can grasp performers at a glance and easily imagine their roles with this intuitive and rich representation. The TV-program listing and the video clips with the performer representative faces are created from video sequences by automatic face detection and grouping. On five-scale evaluation, the proposed method receives 3.8 points on average outperforming the conventional text based method by 1.4 point, which is statistically significant. This shows that TV-programs selection with the proposed method is sufficiently effective.
