Abstract :
A class of J-shaped distributions due to Topp and Leone is revisited and a motivation for its use given in terms of the hazard rate function. The exact distributions for X+Y, X Y and X/(X+Y) are derived for the case in which X and Y are independent random variables from the J-shaped family. An application of the results is provided by tabulating the associated percentage points
