Abstract :
We demonstrate experimentally that the new resonance dips can be generated during the fabrication of CO2 laser written long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) in a single-mode fiber (SMF) under tension. The dynamic analysis of laser writing process was adopted to study the mechanism of the grating inscription. The new characteristics of grating growth were observed except for the increase of writing efficiency with the applied axial tension in the fiber. Our experiments results show that the wavelength shift of new generated resonance peaks was different for the gratings with different pitches. The wavelength of new generated resonance dips could shift towards shorter or longer wavelength with the increase of laser scanning cycles.
