Abstract :
This paper presents the concept and theory of a novel method of demodulation of optical PM signals by utilizing the PM-AM conversion property of a synchronized quantum cascade laser. The converted AM can be detected by a photodetector. The dependence of the PM-AM conversion process on the amplitude and frequency of the input phase modulation and the detuning of the input optical carrier frequency from the free-running slave QCL has been explored.
