Abstract
In this paper, we propose a hierarchical mode decision method for intraframe coding to reduce the computational complexity of the encoder, based on the spatial characteristics. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves 20% to 50% reduction in the computational complexity compared with the conventional algorithms.
