  • Abstract
Bi-directional data buffers are extremely popular for data communication systems applications. That is the case with an embedded microcontroller interface working in one of the PC´s slots. They might communicate with each other faster by using a data hardware channel instead of a software mechanism (e.g., interrupts). To minimise the pin count we have chosen a mix port, parallel and serial, and a circular buffer scheme. An additional test port is implemented to allow for on-PCB full test. Because the manufacturing process has specific requirements, some extra rules were identified and followed. After all, ASIC is the result of tightly collaboration between highly motivated data communication and microelectronics specialists
