Abstract :
UMTS will provide mass market multimedia services via wireless with a unique broadband capability. There is great focus on packet-switching and Internet protocol techniques offering high capacity and efficiency based on bandwidth on demand. These features will be supported by means of integrated terrestrial and satellite modes of delivery to provide ubiquitous coverage ranging from the office environment, through street and urban areas, to complete coverage of rural and remote regions throughout the world. Terminals will be matched to the needs of the user, ranging from very small audio and display devices to those associated with untethered computing. Through a new service creation environment, UMTS will provide mobile users with access to an exploding market of innovative and interactive services
