Abstract :
A multimode-injection-locked Fabry-Perot laser diode (FP-LD) is proposed and used as the remote seeding light for upstream transmission in wavelength-division-multiplex passive optical networks (WDM-PONs). The multimode-injection-locked FP-LD performs as a noise suppressor to reduce the relative intensity noise (RIN) of spectrum-sliced amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). It is verified by simulation that the proposed remote seeding light scheme can improve the transmission performance of injection-locked FP-LD in upstream transmission at 1.25 Gb/s by 3.9 dB at bit error rate (BER) of 10-9.
