Abstract :
This paper presents a proximity coupled interconnect using the zeroth order resonant mushroom structure. The mushroom structure replaces the conventional patch resonator used for an interconnect between two separated transmission lines. By using the zeroth order resonance, the resonant length of the interconnect can be arbitrarily sized. In addition, since the zeroth resonance occurs in the fast-wave region, broadside coupling is possible. The simulated and measured broadside coupling characteristics between zeroth order mushroom structures are shown. Interconnects with continuous and non-continuous ground planes are also designed and fabricated.
