  • Abstract
This paper examines a new approach to the design of a flexible digital television system, which meets the flexibility and ease of operation that future operators require. An integrated design process is presented which starts by analysing all aspects of the business, from the control of programming rights and air-time sales through subscriber management and network control. A framework for such a business assessment is presented in the business analysis section. The results of this step are used in the next phase of the system design, which allows the creation of tailor-made solutions for a wide range of business environments. This phase of the design process is presented in the functional entity analysis section. This design process has been used in several large and very different digital television systems and has proven to be very useful
