  • Abstract
This paper considers the performance of burst segmentation with upper-layer retransmission for optical burst switched (OBS) networks. Focusing on an output wavelength of an OBS node, we model the system as a single-server queueing system without waiting room. An existing burst in transmission is segmented upon other burst arrival, and the segmented part of the burst is retransmitted after a later time. We derive the wavelength utilization and mean output burst size by a continuous-time Markov chain. Numerical examples show that a small retransmission interval achieves high wavelength utilization but the resulting output burst is small.
