  • Abstract
The liberalisation of telecommunications policies in the United Kingdom has opened new commercial opportunities for independent satellite teleport operators. These new teleports have evolved to provide private earth station facilities for broadcasters and information service providers by means of permanent and occasional television broadcast and data services. The paper describes the way a UK based international broadcaster has grasped the opportunities provided by this deregulated environment by setting up a dedicated subsidiary company, Teleport London International (TLI). The subsidiary has made rapid progress during its first year of commercial operation and it has developed international partnerships to provide new distribution opportunities for news and broadcasting organisations. TLI is one of Europe´s first major private international teleports. It offers a full range of analogue and digital satellite services in all radio and television standards for both full time and occasional traffic together with data services. It operates as a service provider in one of the most advanced, deregulated and competitive communications markets in the world
