Abstract :
The autoregressive moving average (ARMA) spectral analysis technique is applied to the problem of estimating the delay of skywaves in Loran-C radionavigation receivers. This establishes a basis on which to design a receiver capable of adjusting its sampling points adaptively to the optimal values in a constantly-changing skywave environment. Such receivers offer the prospect of significantly improved the positioning accuracy and reliability under adverse operation conditions. The performance of this skywave delay estimation technique is evaluated and compared with Fourier-based techniques. The benefits of these methods are assessed, together with the cost in computing resources of implementing them in Loran-C receivers
