Abstract
The authors introduce a design methodology to synthesize a multiprocessor system from an algorithmic description (AD) of the digital system. This is done by first defining multiprocessor arrays to realize segments of the AD. Then, the microarchitecture of each processor is realized. It is shown how to define the processor algorithm description for each processor and how a processor algorithm description can be realized. Specifically, the design methodology used in the AMPSS (automated multiprocessor synthesis system) of the University of Texas at Arlington is presented.<>
