Abstract
We propose a priority based code assignment (PBA) scheme for 3G and beyond CDMA communication systems based upon OVSF (orthogonal variable spreading factor) channelization codes. The PBA scheme is superior to previous code assignment schemes because it differentiates code assignment algorithms for real time and best effort traffic which is the requirement of 3G and beyond systems. Simulation results demonstrate the throughput and blocking probability superiority of the PBA scheme compared to existing schemes
