Abstract :
Since the beginning of the century, it was gradually understood how the metallic chassis of a mobile handset can be utilized as the main radiating element of a mobile terminal antenna. After a decade of research, the use of inherently non-resonant coupling elements has become a competitive antenna choice in today´s multi-standard mobile handsets. This paper combines the use of some helpful computational tools to synthesize a mobile handset antenna capable of satisfying the requirements of today´s mobile communications standards at 0.7-0.96 GHz and 1.71-3.6 GHz with good performance. We also demonstrate how the CCE concept can be extended beyond mobile communications.
