Abstract :
We propose a kind of metasurface to produce the physics of diffusion. The surface is composed of the same type of metamaterial units but with different geometric dimensions. As different sized units lead to different reflection phases under the incidence of plane waves, by carefully choosing the phase distributions, the scattered energy from the surface is redistributed toward all the directions, which is in the same manner as "diffusion". In this paper, such metasurface is applied as the coating of metallic targets with ultra-low radar cross sections (RCSs) and is demonstrated numerically and experimentally.
