Abstract
There are a number of basic approaches to implementing a variable data-rate modem. A meteor burst communication channel can be fully exploited during an adaptive data-rate operation. In adaptive data-rate operation, the actual data-rate is matched to the instantaneous power received from a meteor trail. This paper theoretically investigates the benefit of such an operation and introduces a new method which has some advantages over conventional approaches such as better adaptation and lower complexity
