  • Abstract
Even though the basic IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) standard does not specify quality of service (QoS), the enhanced IEEE 802.11e draft defines hybrid coordination function (HCF) which provides QoS support by serving real-time delay bound multimedia applications with effective allocation of transmission opportunity (TXOP). The allotted TXOP to any QSTA has to be utilized efficiently to enhance the system performance. This paper proposes a novel QoS capable station (QSTA) uplink scheduler along with a QoS capable AP (QAP) HCF scheduler capable of attaining the QoS requirement of delay bound multimedia applications. The performance of this proposed uplink scheduler is compared with conventional schedulers such as earliest deadline first (EDF), and highest priority first (HPF). The simulations are carried out in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based IEEE 802.11g WLAN. The simulation results show that the overall system performance is enhanced in terms of delay reduction, throughput enhancement and improved channel utilization
