Abstract
The design and characteristics of a Ka-band, magnetron based radar are described. Novel solutions used for the development of an electrically scanning slotted waveguide antenna array, a low noise digital receiver with a coherent on receiver technique implemented, and an advanced data acquisition and signal processing system are described. Possible applications of the radar are related to enhancing helicopter safety including detection of power lines and other obstacles, monitoring meteorological conditions on the direction of flight, and providing secure landing.
