Abstract :
This paper describes a novel low-profile polarizing surface operating in reflection which has the unique feature to produce two orthogonal circularly polarized signals in two different bands from a same linearly polarized signal. This design is found to have potential application for multiple beam antenna design and more particularly for the emerging broadband satellite market. In this paper, the concept of the polarizing surface as well as a possible antenna architecture using it are detailed. A specific design at Ka-band is presented and simulation results are given. At normal incidence, an axial ratio better than 0.85 dB is obtained. In the receive band, the axial ration is even better than 0.5 dB. A parametric study of the proposed design and a comparison with previously published broadband polarizers are also provided.
