Abstract :
A novel method of modal gain engineering is proposed and demonstrated for the first time. By arranging the quantum wells´ physical and spectral positions to obtain maximum modal gain for each wavelength, wavelength-independent performance of multiple wavelength VCSELs can be achieved.
