Abstract :
A new half-mode substrate integrated waveguide fed periodic leaky wave antenna is presented. Antipodal tapered slots are used as periodic radiators tapping off the open sidewall of the waveguide. Broadside radiation is enabled by the addition of a matching section to the unit cell. Design techniques are outlined as well as prototype simulations and measurements. The prototype antenna gain is greater than 10dB over an 86° scan range and a 30% bandwidth.
