Summary form only given, as follows. Resolution in images is one of the key factors in determining the information content of single (or a sequence of) frames. As digital image processing becomes more and more the prominent technology in image processing, problems of limited resolutions as a result of sampling and quantization (which go hand in hand with the digital technology) have been surfacing. After discussing briefly what is meant by resolution in images and how it is affected by digital image acquisition processes we focus on the following idea: Use a sequence of frames of limited resolution, portraying the same scene, to generate a frame (or a sequence of frames) of improved resolution. This is commonly referred to as Super Resolution (SR) reconstruction. A survey of exisitng methods for SR reconstruction and the problems involved will be presented.
