Updating engineering programs in Third World Countries: a successful strategy

Summary form only as given. Today´s fast technological growth demands that engineering schools often update their programs and facilities. However, in Third World Countries, more specifically, in Latin American Countries, most universities are solely supported by governmental funds and are unable to keep up with the fast technological growth rate at this turn of the century. The engineering school at UFF in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has launched a strategy towards both overcoming financial problems and keeping up with modernization. This paper is a case study of that strategy, and it may be useful for other engineering schools in Latin America
