  • Abstract
In this paper, a capsule endoscope which has both 2 optical image modules (lenses and CMOS sensors) and actively controllable locomotion function is presented. The two optical image modules are placed in the opposite ends of the capsule. The locomotion function of the capsule endoscope are realized by an external magnetic field controller (MFC) that is highly effective, low in cost, and safe in operation. Several capsule endoscopes were fabricated and in vitro tests were studied. Experimental results demonstrate great potentials and feasibilities of visualizing capability and actively controlling the motion of the capsule endoscope in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, especially in the stomach.
