Abstract :
In Japanese mobile broadcasting, the H.264 compression standard is used. In spite of the high compression efficiency of H.264, the mobile broadcast channel is very narrow for sending high quality pictures. In the H.264 system, the deblocking filter is adopted in order to reduce blocky noise. However, when the channel is narrow, the deblocking filter degrades the picture sharpness enormously. In this paper we propose a new deblocking method using wavelet transform. The proposed method reduces blocky noise more effectively and does not lose picture sharpness compared with the conventional method.
