Abstract :
Integral Energy Australia is the second largest electricity distributor in New South Wales having been formed by the merger of the two previously independent, but neighbouring electricity distributors, Prospect Electricity and Illawarra Electricity. This paper presents an outline of the proposed National Electricity Market and the applications being made by Integral of remote metering in relation to this market. Technical aspects related to remote metering are also described. Integral Energy has been preparing for its participation in the National Electricity Market for over two years and will have installed remote interrogation metering at 500 major customers prior to this markets´ commencement. The data so obtained is enabling Integral´s profitable market operations to be carefully planned. The remote metering systems themselves will also be needed for market participation by these customers. A number of standard metering arrangements is being employed together with a greatly enhanced MV90 computer system to provide the highest possible reliability for the remote metering data gathering system
