Abstract
In 1993 Manweb, UK, decided to implement a large scale advanced meter reading (AMR) trial to test the technology, its application within an electric utility environment and formulate future AMR strategy. It was decided that a trial of a 1000 customers would prove both operational and customer acceptance (or rejection) of such a system. Crewe was chosen as a suitable location to implement the trial system, with the reasons outlined in this paper
