Abstract :
The present paper aims at a generalised digital simulation of an AC commutatorless motor drive using a 6-pulse noncirculating current cycloconverter taking into account the possible current discontinuities in the armature and field and simulation results are compared with test results. The actual dynamic machine model of the synchronous motor in the Park reference frame has been evolved and employed including saliency and damper windings, unlike the previous papers where the motor was replaced by an EMF source behind a resistance-inductance pair. The concept of mutual resistance has been introduced to facilitate the simulation of a generalised unbalanced motor revealing the effect of current discontinuity following the opening of one or more phases. The drive is operated in both sinusoidal and trapezoidal modes and the steady state current and voltage waveforms are studied both theoretically and experimentally.
