Abstract :
In this paper we investigate the use and function of vibration and acceleration sensors. We designed and constructed a data acquisition board using the ADXL202 acceleration sensor, with the possibility of connecting it to a computer, with a real time data transmission. The ADXL202 sensor is a dual axis accelerometer on a single IC chip, with the capability of measuring dynamic and static accelerations. Has a faster response time then electrolytic, mercury or thermal tilt sensors. It can be used in computer peripherals, inertial navigation, seismic monitoring, vehicle security systems and battery powered motion sensing. The acceleration sensor is directly connected to the ATtiny2313 microcontroller. The microcontroller is responsible for the data acquisition and the communication with the computer. Measured data from the sensor is represented in real time, with the possibility of saving the measured data set for later evaluation. The designed software permits the separate representation of static and dynamic accelerations. We used for data representation and analysis a virtual instrumentation based on LabWindows/CVI. The designed data acquisition board and software shows the great possibility offered by the ADXL202 acceleration sensor.
