Abstract
The major technical and scientific problems limiting the development and life of power cables from their design to their recycling are briefly reviewed. Several studies and tests are required in a vast domain including materials science, electrical and chemical engineering, chemistry and electrochemistry. Due to limited space, only the main challenges are discussed and it is hoped that this paper will encourage further discussion and many stimulating research projects
