Abstract
The design of a dual-band phased array antenna element with low mutual coupling characteristics is presented. The antenna supports good bandwidths at the sub-bands, with a frequency ratio of 1.64, and consistent radiation patterns. The multilayer substrate architecture, and the dielectric permittivity contrast present between the layers, helps in achieving very low mutual coupling levels when the radiator is employed in arrays with very small inter-element spacing. The antenna also has a low-profile configuration suitable for use in wide-scan arrays.
