Abstract
This paper presents a new design to reduce the size of Bagley polygon power divider (BPD) using defected ground structure (DGS). The disadvantage of the BPD is its large size at low frequencies. To overcome it, the design is based on using DGS in each arm of the BPD instead of the conventional ones. In order to show that this idea is valid, two dividers, of which one is designed using conventional microstrip line and the other is size-reduced by using DGS, are simulated, fabricated, measured and compared. The performance of the BPD using DGS is almost the same with the conventional one; meanwhile, a size reduction of about 50% is achieved.
