Abstract
High-Impedance Surfaces comprising multi-resonant elements are proposed as chipless tags. The presence of the ground plane in the structure is a key point in realizing a chipless RFID nearly insensitive with respect to the objects which the tags are placed on. The paper presents various encoding mechanisms used to design robust and compact chipless RFID tags able to work both on low-reflecting objects and on metallic structures.
