Abstract :
In this paper, we investigate the outage behavior of optical inter-satellite communication links. The main issues addressed in the present work are: (1) source-induced fading, (2) statistically correlated fading, (3) transmitter diversity, (4) selection combining, and (5) equal gain combining. It is shown that (i) the merit of combining is obvious when the correlation coefficient is less than 0.5, (ii) the EGC scheme gives better performance than the SC scheme, and (iii) the long wavelength gives better performance than the short wavelength.
