  • Abstract
An automatic vehicle-identification system (AVIS) has been developed for the intelligent transportation system (ITS) using the TMS320C31. AVIS consists of 3 major parts: invisible bar-code, optical scanner, and DSP board. The bar-code is made of a material which reflects only the specific light wavelength, 1350 nm, which is invisible to the human eye. The developed optical scanner can read the invisible bar-code data only at the corresponding light wavelength. The DSP board has been implemented by employing TI´s TMS320C31. The DSP board processes the bar-code data which are taken from the optical scanner. The DSP board operates at 33 MHz with a bar-code recognition algorithm which includes error-detecting and error-correcting capabilities. This implementation has been tested in the laboratory and on the test road. The result show that AVIS works successfully and promisingly. AVIS is expected to be applied to the non-stop toll gate and the VES (violation enforcement system)
