Abstract
With the increasing use of real-time multimedia applications over IP networks, efficient use of resources, especially in wireless networks, is becoming a necessity. In order to have packet-based wireless networks, it is imperative to have some means of supporting varied quality of service (QoS) requirements for different multimedia services. In this paper, we propose a QoS aware model for supporting multimedia applications over cellular IP. The model employs an efficient scheduling algorithm that provides loss and delay differentiation for Cellular IP. Our goal is to develop QoS model to support multimedia applications over CIP by using class-based service without reservations. The mechanisms will support service differentiation including scheduling and buffer management. The model we use relies on using adaptive real-time scheduling techniques that take into account the characteristics of the wireless channel as well as the QoS requirements for each traffic stream. Simulation studies are performed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed model, in comparison with other known model.
