Abstract :
With the recent advances in WDM networking technology, and the growing deployment of WDM networking equipment, we are now witnessing the establishment of the next generation networking infrastructure. This paper briefly reviews the role of the data communication network (DCN) in transport networks, and describes MONET´s DCN architecture. We then describe a new signalling application of the DCN for WDM-based networks.
