As the fast development of urban economics, the fast growing trend of private car ownership is inevitable, but some serious traffic problems have negative effect on economics and citizen´s living conditions, like traffic congestions, air pollution, traffic safety, and so on. The factors relevant to the grow of private car contains not only per capita GDP, urban size, urban population, but also the service of urban transit, the urban traffic management policy. This paper takes Suzhou as a sample, using the historical data from 1991 to 2008, to analyze all those affecting factors listed before and make a reasonable trend forecast on the development of private car ownership by absorbing developed countries´ experience based on the local economics characteristic, find out countermeasures, and it will provide an useful reference to the private car development for China´s other cities.
