Abstract :
The quadrature surface coil described here has the following objectives in its design: (i) to extend the sagittal coverage in a 40 cm diameter spherical imaging volume; (ii) to maintain a good SNR quadrature gain at 10 cm or beyond from the coil surface; and (iii) to be easily adapted to an MRI scanner without a substantial modification of the system. The authors´ results demonstrate that a single quadrature surface coil can produce a very large field of view while maintaining a good SNR quadrature gain at 10 cm or beyond from the coil surface. As no tuning and matching readjustments are required for different human loads, the coil can be easily adapted to any conventional MRI scanner without undergoing substantial modification of the system itself
