Abstract :
Information technology has evolved to the point at which a new class of small systems that can be characterized as ´pocket intelligence´ is emerging. The current environment is reviewed, and the technical challenges in human interface, integration/communication, and application that must be met before this class achieves its full potential are outlined. Small components, ranging from the size of a penny, to that of a card, to that of a large pocket diary, perform as portable data carriers, specialized application processors, and sophisticated computers. The efforts of SRI International in the area of pocket intelligence are discussed.<>
