Abstract :
This paper proposed a novel current control based modular multilevel voltage sourced converter (CCVSC) topology suitable for different rates of voltage application, especially for power transmission and distribution usage. The characteristics and advantages compared with the existing VSC HVDC are discussed. The fundamental concept and the applied control scheme are introduced. The simulation result of a 20 MW dual-end CCVSC HVDC system illustrates the feasibility of this new topology and efficiency of the control scheme.
